The JLPL Chandigarh Golf League in association with Vredestein Tyres is all set to tee off on September 21, here at the nursery of Indian golf, the Chandigarh Golf Club. The six-week extravaganza will see as many 20 teams and 360 players compete in a league-cum-knock out format with 18 players representing each side. Each team was given 10 owner’s picks with the balance picked from the player pool during the Player Auction held on August 24.
The league, headlined by real estate giant Janta Land Promoters Pvt. Ltd., will see the 20 teams split into three groups in the round robin stage with each team playing all others in their group. The top two teams from each group along with the two best-placed teams will qualify for the knock out stages which will played in the last week of October. All matches will be played in both, the morning and afternoon sessions starting 8:00 am. The total prize money is worth INR 20 Lacs for the teams.
Vredestein Tyres have come onboard, as the associate sponsor while MasterTrust, a broking & investment firm, is the co-sponsor for the event. City based Alchemist Hospital is the Health Partner for the event with BMW Krishna Automobiles on board as the Automobile Partner. Renowned international Assurance, Tax & Advisory firms, Grant Thornton is the Official Scorekeeper.(SUBHEAD)
Addressing the media, Col. HS Chahal, President, Chandigarh Golf Club said, “We are delighted to host the first ever Chandigarh Golf League. An event of this magnitude was asking for it to be hosted at our club and it is now time to get the ball rolling. The members have responded with great enthusiasm and we look forward to a great six weeks.”
On the occasion, a spokesperson from JLPL, said, “Being the pioneers in the real estate space, this event is the perfect compliment for us as a brand to associate. We are delighted to present the first edition of the Chandigarh Golf League.”
Mr. KS Sibia, Captain, Chandigarh Golf Club added, “The peak-playing season is upon us and there is no better way to start other than a celebration of our membership, which is the Chandigarh Golf League. We have upgraded our greens in the lead up to provide sublime playing conditions during the course of the league.”
Dr. GS Kochhar, Vice President, Chandigarh Golf Club said, “Being part of the club for so long, I never doubted the response this event would get and we can now all create lasting memories.”
Mr. Brandon de Souza, Tournament Director remarked, “Franchise golf has taken off across the country in a huge way and it is here to stay. We have seen successful editions conducted across the country starting with Kolkata and I see no reason for Chandigarh to be any other way. The winners of CGL will qualify for the National Amateur Golf League to face the winners of the various leagues in Hyderabad this November.
