While the local Nehru Stadium has been merged into the new bus stand, a magnificent stadium is coming up in the Abha Square here.
MLA Sandeep Jakhar visited the stadium to take stock of the construction work and expressed hope that soon the use of this ground would be possible for cricket.
It is noteworthy that the Surinder Jakhar Trust, formed in the memory of Surinder Jakhar, five-time chairman of Asia’s fertilizer giant IFFCO, has been organizing a cricket competition here in which national level players have also been special guests.(SUBHEAD)
Surinder Jakhar, recipient of the Best Co-operator State Award, was the captain of the cricket team of DAV College. After becoming the president of IFFCO, he resolved that youth should be associated with sports to keep them away from drugs. Under this, cricket competitions were organized every year. Now after the completion of the construction of the new ground, it will be possible to organize cricket tournaments at the new stadium.
The legislator said that he was trying to get the pending work done at the earliest by talking to the Commissioner and Mayor regarding the construction work of the stadium. He has appealed to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann that the Punjab government should release the stalled fund of Abohar bus stand also at the earliest so that people can get relief.
