VIENNA: Santiago Gonzalez of Mexico and Andres Molteni of Argentina prevailed over formidable pair of Rohan Bopanna of India and Matwe Middelkoop of Netherlands by 6-2 6-7 (4) 10-8 in the doubles quarter-final of the € 248,9935 Erste Bank Open Vienna (Austria). The match for a semi-final berth lasted 87 minutes.
Bopanna and Matwe lost the first set at 2-6 as they were broken in the sixth and eighth games in 23 minutes. However Bopanna and Matwe hit back and restored parity by winning the second set in a tie-breaker in 49 minutes.
With a 7-6 (4) verdict. In the match tie-breaker third set Santiago and Andres won by 10-8 in 14 minutes.
Santiago and Andres converted two of six breakpoints.
Bopanna and Matwe earned €19,470 and 90 ATP points.
BALAJI-JEEVAN IN DOUBLES SEMIS: Top seeded Indian pair of N.Sriram Balaji and Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan recorded a comfortable 6-4, 6-2 verdict in the doubles quarter-final of the $53120 Lima Challenger in Peru.
Earlier in the pre-quarter-final Balaji and Jeevan had struggled to pip Jan Choinski of Great Britain and Karol Drzewiecki of Poland by 7-5 4-6 11-9.
RAJA-DIVIJ LOSE: Indian duo of Purav Raja and Divij Sharan were ousted by Jonathan Eysseric ofFrance and David Pel of Netherlands in straight sets 6-2, 7-5 in the doubles pre-quarter-final of the € 67960 Open Brest,-Credit Agricole (France).
ANIRUDH-VIJAY GO DOWN FIGHTING: Indian duo of Anirudh Chandrasekar and N Vijay Sundar Prashanth went down fighting to Robert Galloway of USA and Hans Hach Verdugo of Mexico by 6-2 4-6 10-3 in the doubles pre-quarter-final in the $53120 Las Vegas Open (USA).
