At a meeting held under the chairmanship of Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan to strengthen industries in Punjab, Abohar MLA Sandeep Jakhar prominently raised the issue of neglect of industrial development in Fazilka district.
The MLA said that the government has not made meaningful efforts to provide basic facilities in the Industrial Focal Point in Abohar, although some enthusiastic residents have set up small industries, but despite the problems raised on the arrival of the former Industries Minister in the past, the govt. did not take necessary steps to implement those demands on which the minister and senior officials had agreed.(SUBHEAD)
He said that Abohar holds a leading position in Narma cotton and Kinnow fruit production, but necessary facilities are not being provided by the govt. to create an encouraging environment for the producers and traders. This is creating a feeling of despair among the farmers and traders; it should be resolved soon.
Jakhar said that it appears that the govt. was trying to provide economic and social strength to traders, producers and the laborers. For this, it is necessary that more facilities are provided to rice shellers in the border areas of Fazilka and Jalalabad, which are leading in the production of paddy. Due to lack of facilities, many rice-sheller owners are going through a phase of despair. This will also have a negative impact on the producers and workers.
The need is that along with shellers, it should be ensured that electricity is also made available to cotton ginning and pressing factories and the electricity tariff should be fixed in such a way that industrialists do not find it a burden to do business.
