In compliance with the directions received from the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI), the District Magistrate Fazilka has ordered to shut all slaughterhouses for a day on April 4 in view of Mahavir Jayanti (Bhagwan Mahavir Janma Kalyanak)in the district.
Notably the Vishwa Jain Sangthan Punjab Chapter Coordinator Dr Sandeep Jain had last month sent two letters to Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to change the date of Bhagwan Mahavir Janma Kalyanak in the state holidays list from April 4 to April 3.
The organisation had also demanded a ban on slaughter houses, sale of non-veg and egg products as well as alcoholic drinks on the day
Dr Jain had said that in the list of Holidays declared by Govt of Punjab, Holiday on Bhagwan Mahavir Janma Kalyanak is shown as April 4. As per Jain belief the date of birth falls on April 3. The Governments of Rajasthan, Karnataka, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh and other states had changed the holiday date to April 3 but the Punjab Govt did not respond to the request.The Jain Sabha Abohar had also submitted a memorandum to the DC seeking ban on slaughter houses, sale of meat, eggs and liquor for a day.(SUBHEAD)
DC cum DM Dr Senu Duggal has issued an order exercising the powers under Section 144 of the CrPC. It said that there will also be a complete ban on preparations and sale of meat and eggs at all the hotels, roadside eateries and rehris on April 4, Tuesday.
It will be the responsibility of the District Police chief, Commissioner of the Abohar Municipal Corporation, Deputy Director Animal Husbandry, all executive officers of local bodies, village panchayats to implement the ban orders that are to be widely publicised also through cable network and publicity vans. The copies of the order are to be affixed on the notice boards at all police stations, offices of the Sub Divisional Magistrates, tehsils and municipal complexes.
