A farmer, Iqbal Singh, was held after a case was registered at the Wahabwala police station over the death of a cow due to the electrocution in Sukhchain village. On the statement of Vinod Kumar, police registered a case under Sections 429 (Mischief by killing or maiming cattle) and 201 (Causing disappearance of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code.
Senior Veterinary Officer Dr Mandeep Singh formed a medical board comprising Dr Yogesh, Dr Manav and Dr Varun Bhateja to conduct a post-mortem.
In his statement, Vinod Kumar alleged that Iqbal Singh had erected a barbed fence around his agricultural land and connected the same with electricity supply. A cow came in contact with the wire and was electrocuted. The erring farmer then buried the dead cow near his field to put a lid on his crime.
Akhil Bhartiya Jeev Raksha Bishnoi Sabha's state president RD Bishnoi said that other farmers should also be directed to remove cobra wires and disconnect power supply in their fields, if they continue violating the prohibitory orders issued by the district administration, a strong action should be taken against them. Bishnoi condemned the Wildlife Protection Department officials for not inspecting the spot, lamenting that the place of occurrence was not in their jurisdiction.
