Chandigarh, Punjab and Haryana High Court Justices XI beat Punjab and Haryana High Court Advocates XI by six runs in a series of exhibition matches being organized under Gully Cricket Tournament organized by UT Cricket Association and Chandigarh Police on Thursday. Justices XI team managed to defend the target of 75 runs.

Justice XI after winning the toss and electing to bat first, scored 74 for the loss of three wickets in the stipulated ten overs, with unbeaten Justice Harkesh (19) and Justice Sandeep Moudgil (16) as top scorers. Justice Avnish Jhingan scored 11 while Justice HS Sethi got out after scoring one run. Retired hurt Justice Arupinder Grewal made seven, Justice AJ Masih and two Justice Kshetrapal contributed two and one respectively.

In reply, Advocates XI kicked off to a solid start with 24 runs in the first four overs on the board but Justice XI's bowlers dominated in the later stages which resulted in restricting Advocates XI at 68/3. Puneet Bali scored 13 while Retired hurt Viranjit Mahal contributed 12 runs. Retired hurt Aman Bahri also scored 11 runs.(SUBHEAD)

Earlier, in the presence of UTCA President Sanjay Tandon, chief guest former Test cricketer Kapil Dev and Chief Pattern of Paralympics Committee of India Avinash Rai Khanna and former judge Justice Mahesh Grover settled the toss between the two teams and also honoured the players at the end. Mayor of Municipal Corporation Anup Gupta, Deputy Commissioner Vijay Pratap Singh and DSP Ram Gopal of Chandigarh Police also attended the prize distribution ceremony.

On this occasion, while appreciating this effort of UTCA, Kapil Dev said that by organizing such events in a very short span of its inception, this effort of UTCA will definitely pay off in years to come. Praising the UTCA’s President Sanjay Tandon, he said that he should make this event an annual event, which would inspire other state cricket associations as well.
