IMMIGRATION FRAUDS : CHANDIGARH POLICE AND UK DELEGATES JOIN HANDS IN COMBATING ORGANIZED CRIME

WORKSHOP ON ‘ORGANIZED IMMIGRATION CRIME’ HELD

A workshop on ‘Organized Immigration Crime’ was held between Chandigarh Police & British High Commission at Hotel Mountview, Sector 10, Chandigarh. The discussions were held between Chandigarh Police Officials and UK delegates to join hands in combating Organized Immigration Crime and aimed to make various strategies to control it.

(MOREPIC1)(MOREPIC3)The participants in the workshop among UK delegates were Ms. Caroline Rowett, British Deputy High Commissioner, Chandigarh, Mr. Ben Pugsley, First Secretary, Justice & Home Affairs, Mr. Amandeep Grewal, Deputy Head of Mission, Mr. Rajinder S Nagarkoti, Political and Project Adviser, Ms. Shreya Gandhi, Justice and Home Affairs Adviser, Ms. Rachna Chaturvedi, Deputy Returns Liaison Officer, Migration Department, Ms. Sunayana Sharma, Returns, Administrative Assistant, Migration Department, Mr. Andrew Watts, Regional Manager, Home Office International Operations, Ms. Sara Kay, International Liaison Manager, Ms. Mohini Singh, Consular Officer had joined the workshop for UK.

(SUBHEAD)Sh. Praveer Ranjan, IPS, Director General of Police, UT, Chandigarh inaugurated the function by lightening the lamp with the presence of Sh. R.K. Singh, IPS, IGP/UT, Sh. Deepak Purohit, IPS, DIGP/UT, Ms. Manisha Chaudhary, IPS, SSP/Traffic & Security, Ms. Kanwardeep Kaur, IPS, SSP/UT, Sh. Ketan Bansal, IPS, SP/HQR, Ms. Shruti Arora, IPS, Sh. Mridul, IPS, SP/City and other Senior Officers. All SDPOs & SHOs, DSPs have also attended the workshop.

As of now 329 immigration companies/consultancy/coaching centers are working in UT, Chandigarh and information of 269 immigration companies are under process. 27 recruiting Agents are working in Chandigarh as per MEA under Immigration Act 1983 which are controlled by Protector of Emigrant, Sector 34, Chandigarh. Some of the immigration companies are dishonestly making false promises and duping innocent people these days.

In view of increasing in number of immigration crime, Chandigarh Police is vigilantly working to identify and dismantling the networks of Visa Agents to protect citizens from visa frauds. Some of the main issues by immigration companies came to light are: – Violation of the orders U/S 144 Cr.P.C. issued by DM, Chandigarh, Collection of huge money and run away after closing their offices, overcharging for filling study visa, preparing fake and forged documents for undue gain/benefit, illegal immigration of innocent applicants for undue gain, misrepresentation of applicant for undue gain/benefit, blackmailing the applicants for undue gain and violation of Emigration Act, 1983.

The presentations on immigration fraud were also given by the Chandigarh Police and UK Police on the occasion. Sh. Ram Gopal, DSP/CID has given concluding presentation on the workshop organized by Chandigarh Police in association with UK on immigration crime. The coordination meeting was followed by group photos and High Tea.

This coordination would result in seamless coordination between the Chandigarh Police and British High Commission, which would results in synergize effective police action against such immigration fraud.
