A peaceful candle light prayer service was organised today at Christ the King Cathedral, Sector 19 Chandigarh to express solidarity with the Women in Manipur.

(MOREPIC1) (MOREPIC2) In a statement issued today The Women Commission along with the Diocese of Simla Chandigarh, said that they are extremely disturbed by the present situation of the state of Manipur. In the past two and half months, Manipur has experienced unprecedented levels of violence and turmoil. Since the disturbance began, there has been continuing violence and combustion, particularly in the valley region's periphery. Numerous members of the Christian community have had their homes and villages burned down, their possessions robbed, and their lives vandalised. Number of people were murdered, injured, and displaced as a result of the unrest in the state.

Among the nations of the world, the people of India are bowing before the series of shameful acts in Manipur. On May 4, the global community watched with dismay when two women were brutally humiliated and tortured by a group of assailants. National media reports that countless such incidents have taken place in Manipur. This act has filled our hearts with anguish and anger over this horrific video. It is shameful and shocking news. And the entire country and the world has condemned this act “crime against humanity”.(SUBHEAD)

“मानवता के विरुद्ध अपराध” we have no words to express. We have gathered here to show our solidarity with fellow brothers and sisters who have been suffering. We are here to pray for them So that peace will prevail in the state.

Several minority institutions, including schools, hospitals, homes, business centres, and other sites, have been targeted by society's fanatics. Churches and other places of worship were burned down and vandalised. There have been numerous instances of structural and symbolic violence throughout the state. Law and order have completely collapsed, there is a lack of resources, and even the most basic necessities are not available to the populace. Violence has yet to come to an end. Communal groups have been oppressing the minority using a variety of tactics, strategies to create hatred among the people.

The Women Commission along with the Diocese of Simla Chandigarh made a plea to India's Prime Minister and Home Minister to take appropriate action to address the issue. Additionally, we appeal to the people of the state of Manipur to maintain harmony and peace within the state.
