Hundreds of people from different states thronged the cremation ground Tuesday evening in Rawatsar to pay their last respects to popular Haryanvi folk singer Raju Punjabi (40) who passed away at Hisar.
There was an influx of people who came to condole at Raj Kumar alias Raju Punjabi’s ancestral residence in Rawatsar. Raju had jaundice 10 days ago and was discharged from the Hisar hospital three days ago but due to sudden deterioration of health last evening, he was again admitted to the hospital. He died during treatment this morning. He left behind two daughters besides wife.
'Sauda Ae Kuch Nahin' written by famous poet and Bollywood film script writer Ramesh created a special record. He sang many songs to give direction to society. Raju's last song was 'Aapse Milke Yaara Humko Accha Laga Tha,' which he released on 12 August enthralled more than 3 lakh Facebook followers besides other social media platforms.
Raju Punjabi started singing in Haryanvi pop to save the fading Haryanvi singing. The songs sung by him created a buzz not only in the country but also abroad. Desi Desi Na Bolya Kar... The Haryanvi song became a super hit. He gave a new identity to the Haryana music industry. He made his singing debut in 1996 with bhajans. In the year 2013, his song Yaar Dobara Nahi Milne... brought him a lot of fame. Raju Punjabi songs along with Haryanvi folk singer Sapna Chowdhary have always been played during cruise dinners at Pattaya and Phuket beach in Thailand. He also always had a well-known association with Binder Danoda.
