Tributes were paid to veteran freedom fighter Chandi Ram Verma, who was a close associate of Punjab Kesari Lala Lajpat Rai, in a program organized at Swami Keshwanand Senior Secondary School on his death anniversary. Arya Samaj priest Krishan Shastri conducted the Havan Yajna on the occasion.
Mayor Vimal Thatai, Improvement Trust ex-chairman Anil Kamra, Sahitya Sadan president Suryakant Rinwa, Swami Keshwanand Ayurvedic Hospital in-charge Dr. Sandeep Watts, Lekhak Parishad president Raj Sadosh, Radheshyam Gupta, Dharamvir Batra, Saroj Nagpal, Kuldeep Soni, Anil Kamra Advocate, teachers and students offered flowers on the portrait of Verma ji. Principal Anurag Nagpal thanked the guests.
(SUBHEAD)Throwing light on Verma’s life, it was revealed that Lala Lajpat Rai himself had appointed Verma as the provincial in-charge of Tilak Swaraj Kosh in a public meeting organized near Imperial Bank in Abohar. Verma ji served as the secretary of the Sahitya Sadan established by Swami Keshwanand, the immortal education saint of the desert, along with president Hazari Lal Rinwa and spread national language and Ayurveda in the region for many decades.
He won Punjab Assembly election twice and served as minister in the Punjab government, but Verma ji kept simplicity and virtue an integral part of his life. Due to his efforts, the school was established in the memory of Swami Keshwanand, former member of Rajya Sabha.
