More than two hundred trains have been cancelled due to farmer’s protest in Ferozepur division.While divulging details, Sanjay Sahu Divisional Railway Manager said that the farmers have been blocking railway tracks at 13 locations including Level Crossing Gate C-5 between Manawala- Jandiala stations, Jalandhar Cantt yard, Ferozepur Cantt yard, Golewala yard, Fazilka yard, Mallanwala Khas yard, Level Crossing 5-62 in Talwandi yard, Moga yard, level crossing 5-42 Ajitwal yard, Gurdaspur yard, Hoshiarpur yard, Tarn Taran yard and Majitha yard.
The DRM said that overall 227 trains have been cancelled, 73 trains have been short terminated, 31 trains were short originated and 50 trains were diverted. “Overall 381 trains have been affected due to farmer’s protest. To avoid any hassle to the passengers, we have setup special help desks at the stations. Besides, additional ticket counters for the ticket refund have been setup”, said DRM.
The DRM said special eatable stalls have been setup at those stations where passengers are stuck. “Continues announcements regarding the updated schedule of the trains is being announced at the stations to provide information to the passengers”, said DRM.
(SUBHEAD)Meanwhile Jasbir Singh Piddi State Vice President Kissan Majdoor Sangharsh Committee said that the farmers are protesting only because the union government failed to fulfill the promises made by them after the Delhi protests. “All the major farmer unions from Punjab and Harayana will have a meeting today in Chandigarh to decide the further course of action.”, said Piddi adding that the government must release a package of Rs. 50000 crores for those farmers whose crops have been destroyed due to floods and other natural calamity.
“Besides, the government must implement of Swaminathan report, should take stern action against the accused of Lakhimpur Khiri incident”, said Piddi.
On this occasion farmer union leaders Malkeet Singh Ghulami Wala, Hira Singh Sarpanch, Bachan Singh Bhullar, Chamakur Singh, Avtar Singh and others were present.
