Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Friday congratulated the Indian Hockey (Men) squad for winning Gold Medal in Asian games after a gap of 9 years.

The Chief Minister said that it is a historic moment for the entire country in general and Punjab in particular as state has 10 players in the Indian Hockey contingent including Captain Harmanpreet Singh.

He said that players from Punjab have till now won seven gold medals adding that with this medal, players from state has equalled its highest gold medal tally of 1951 and 1962 when they had bagged seven medals. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that it is a proud moment for the country as a record has been created in the history of Asian Men’s Hockey. 

The Chief Minister said that this is the best ever performance of state players in the 72 years history of Asian games as they have so far won total 18 medals in various sports events. He envisioned that this historic win will pave way for restoring the pristine glory of national game in the country.

(SUBHEAD)Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the entire team has made the entire country feel proud by this spectacular victory against Japan adding that this win has ended the nine years drought by bagging the medal In Asian games in the national game. 

The Chief Minister said that this victory will go down in golden words in the annals of sports history. He said that this victory has proved that game of hockey is on path of revival in the country. Showering heaps of praise on the team, Bhagwant Singh Mann said the team has upheld the glorious legacy of the great Hockey players produced from the country adding that the players from state will be rewarded with cash prizes as per policy of state government.
