Former Congress MLA Kulbir Singh got the bail from the civil court in Zira, however he could not be released from the jail.

While divulging details Paramjit Singh, counsel of Kulbir Zira said that the bail orders of Kulbir had been issued by Parvinder Kaur SDJM Zira yesterday. “A “Kalandara” under sections 107, 151 CRPC was filed against Kulbir on the same day when he was booked. Today the bail bound were furnished in that “Kalandra” but the SDM had gone on leave and the Duty Magistrate Naib Tehseeldar Vinod Kumar didn't issue the release warrant due to political pressure and asked for a verification report from the police for release of Kulbir”, said Advocate Paramjit Singh adding that they have filed a writ petition against the administration for this illegal detention.

It is pertinent to mention here that on October 12, Kulbir along with his supporters had been booked for disrupting government officials on duty following the complaint lodged by Block Development Panchayat Officer (BDPO) in Zira. The BDPO had alleged that Kulbir had disrupted the government officials on duty and had also allegedly tempered with the government record during their three day protest in front of BDPO office in Zira.

Later, Kulbir and his supporters were booked under sections 341, 186, 268, 149 IPC at Zira city police station on October 13 (FIR No. 120 Dated 12.10.23).

Following the registration of FIR, Kulbir had said that on October 17, he will go to “Baba Budha Sahib” and while coming back, he surrender before police at Zira police station but before surrendering he would hold a press conference in which he will reveal the malpractices of the AAP Government.

However on Tuesday morning at around 4.30 am, Kulbir was arrested from his home by the police from his residence. Later, Kulbir was produced at the residence of the Duty Magistrate Anshuman who sent Kulbir to 14 days judicial remand. Initially, the Ex MLA was brought to Central Jail in Ferozepur, however, as his supporters started assembling there, he was later shifted to Ropar Jail.
