Two Scribers member of Chandigarh Press Club  Arshdeep Arshi and Nitin Sharma won Laadli Media and Advertising awards for gender sensitivity 2023.

They received the award at a ceremony held in Jaipur on Saturday evening. The award included a trophy and citation.

Arshdeep Arshi, now working as an independent journalist, won the Laadli Media award for her coverage on domestic violence.She conducted an interview for News18 on domestic violence after a woman named Mandeep Kaur had committed suicide in America. The interview highlighted the difficulties women going through abuse face in America, the kind of help they need from family and friends and from the legal system.

(MOREPIC2)(SUBHEAD)Nitin Sharma, an Assistant Editor (Sports) with The Indian Express, has got the Laadli Media award for his story “Don’t wear shorts.. they told her.. this gold will inspire all girls” on world champion boxer Nikhat Zareen. The story highlighted how women are discouraged to opt for sports like boxing and how Zareen fought her way back to become the world champion. Being from a Muslim household, Zareen was supported by her parents and coaches in her journey to the world stardom.

A total of 87 winners and 31 jury appreciation awards out of a total of 857 entries in 13 languages were announced in the awards ceremony held at Rajasthan International Centre at Jaipur on Saturday evening, added Umesh Sharma, Secretary General of the Club.

This was the 13th edition of prestigious awards which were constituted by Population First. Population First is a social impact organisation which through The Laadli Media Advocacy initiatives focus on promoting gender sensitivity in media and communication to build a more gender equitable society with the support from UNFPA and Jaipur-based media advocacy organisation Lok Samvad Sansthan.
