PUNJAB'S GOLDEN GLORY: HARJINDER KAUR SECURES GOLD IN WOMEN'S 71 KG WEIGHTLIFTING

PUNJAB, HARYANA, AND CHANDIGARH ATHLETES SHINE AT 37TH NATIONAL GAMES

October 27th, 2023 – The 37th National Games witnessed a spectacular display of talent as athletes from Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh took center stage, dominating several events.

Weightlifting Triumphs:

In the Men's 81 Kg weightlifting category, Nitek Jangid of Rajasthan clinched the first gold for his state, lifting a total of 317 kg. Valluri Ajay Babu of Madhya Pradesh secured silver with 312 kg, and Abhishek Nipane of Maharashtra secured bronze with a total lift of 309 Kg.

In the Women's 71 Kg category, Punjab's Harjinder Kaur lifted an impressive total of 201 Kg, securing the gold medal. Trupti Mane of Maharashtra secured the silver with a total lift of 190 Kg, and Manipur's P. Umeshwori Devi secured bronze with a total lift of 189 Kg.

In the Men's 89 Kg category, Gaurav of Chandigarh secured gold with a total lift of 319 Kg, narrowly beating P.S Marush of SSCB, who settled for a silver medal. Amarjit Guru of Punjab lifted an impressive 317 Kg but had to settle for bronze.

Gymnastics Excellence:

Rhythmic gymnast Samyukta Kale, representing Maharashtra, clinched her third gold medal of the Games in the hoop event, with a total score of 26.45 points. Her teammate, Nishka Kale, made it a 1-2 finish for the state with a score of 23.45. Haryana's Life Adlakha secured the bronze with 23.35 points.

In Women's Trampoline Gymnastics, Maharashtra's Rahi Pakhle stood atop the podium with an impressive score of 43.88 points. Sejal Jadhav, also from Maharashtra, secured the silver with 41.20 points, and Kerala's Anvitha Sachin claimed bronze with a performance of 40.70 points.

Netball Showdown:

At the Campal Sports Village, hosts Goa booked their places in the final of the Men's Fast5 Netball, edging past Karnataka 42-41 in a tightly contested match. In the Women's category, Haryana and Punjab advanced to the finals after thrilling victories in the semi-finals.
