ARJUN’S TON SECURED 50 RUNS LEAD AGAINST MAHARASHTRA

A brilliant 178 runs century from skipper Arjun Azad ensured a 50 runs lead over Maharashtra on the second day of the Col CK Nayudu trophy match being played at Cricket Stadium, Sector 16 on Monday.

After bowling out visitors for 280, UT boys failed to get a prolific start as their top order – Harnoor Singh (22), Nehal Pajni (13) and Rajangad Bawa (3) fell cheaply with 77/3 on the board.

New batter Prashant Ahlawat did his best to extend the innings with Arjun but returned back after scoring 25 and left the side at 128/4. Later, Skipper Arjun Azad paired with wicketkeeper batter Akshit Rana to score a 115 run partnership and steered the innings to 243. Akshit was dismissed for 40. Meanwhile, Arjun completed his century but the tailenders – Nishank Birla (1), Chiragveer Dhindsa (8), Neil (1) and Harshit (29) could support him convincingly. With the departure of Arjun, UT boys bundled out for 230 runs. Batter smashed 17 boundaries and one six.AR Nishad took five wickets while SA Veer clinched three wickets.Visitors scored eight runs without losing any wicket before the stumps were drawn.
