SIX ACCUSED DURING TRIAL IN 23 YEARS AFTER FILING CHARGE SHEET

The Special Judge, CBI Cases, Bhubaneswar has sentenced   K. Balagangadhar, then AGM, RSP (SAIL) to undergo 2 (two) years’ Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs. 15,000/- in a fraud and cheating case. 

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had registered the instant case against accused including then AGM, RSP (SAIL), and others. It was alleged that the accused persons entered into a criminal conspiracy with private firms and cheated RSP to the tune of Rs. 24,41,010/-  on the basis of fake and forged documents by abusing their official position in the matter of issuance of work order to the private firm for Hot Strip Mill (HSM) RSP for executing overhauling work, colouring, painting, dusting, etc. 

After investigation, chargesheet was filed on 29.11.2001. 

In course of trial, 6 accused persons died and trial against them was abated. The Trial Court found the accused guilty and sentenced him accordingly. While another accused, Proprietor of a private firm, was acquitted.
