ANNUAL SPORTS MEET HELD AT CDOE

The Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE), Panjab University, Chandigarh, organised today its scintillating ANNUAL SPORTS MEET 2024 in the sprawling ground of the University. This CDOE event underscores the vital importance of physical health for the distance learners, going beyond the academics, and thus aiming at a holistic development of theirs.

In his inaugural address, the Chief Guest, Prof Y. P. Verma, Registrar of the University, highlighted that involvement in sports activities can lead to improved mental and physical well-being, leadership qualities and a valuable asset in job opportunities and careers. Guest of Honour, Prof Amit Chauhan, the Dean Student Welfare, wished everyone present a day filled with joy, appreciated the initiative of the Department and exhorted the students to embrace the spirit of friendly competition. Guest of Honour Prof SimritKahlon, DSW (Women), spoke on the relevance of sports, involving strenuous physical activities and mental resilience, in the present times of sedentary lifestyle and prolonged and extensive use of technology.

Prof Harsh Gandhar, Director, CDOE, welcomed and introduced the Dignitaries and stressed that lessons learned from wins and loses alike contribute to personal growth and character development of the student participants.

Prof MadhurimaVerma added that success is not solely measured by the score but by the values embodied in the pursuit of excellence. Convener of the event Dr Purva Mishra and many faculty members including Dr Kamla, Dr Sucha Singh, Dr Anil, DrHarmail Singh put their best to make the event a success. As many as one hundred and twenty students took part in the meet in several sports. The major events of the sport meet included 100 meters (men/women), 4×100 relay (men/women), long jump (men/women), 3 legged race (men/women), lemon and spoon race (men/women) and tug of war.
