In a move aimed at giving a major push to agriculture in the Kandi region of the state, the Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Saturday dedicated Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) Agriculture college to the people.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister said that this college has been set up by the PAU in collaboration with the state government. He said that this college is the first one of the PAU which has been set up outside its university campus. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the move is aimed at giving impetus to the agriculture in this region as it is behind the rest of the state due to its rough terrain.

The Chief Minister said that with the opening of this college major push will be given to Agriculture on one hand and new vistas of employment will be opened for the youth on the other. He said that students will be able to take admission in a four years degree course in B. Sc agriculture, adding that every year 120 students can seek admission in this degree course. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the state government has kept a budget of Rs 50 crore for the college adding that out of this Rs 35 crore is for the construction of buildings in the campus and rest amount will be used to give salaries for the coming five years.

The Chief Minister bemoaned that due to negligence of the successive state governments these areas have been hitherto ignored in the pace of development. However, Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the state government is leaving no stone unturned for holistic development of this region blessed with a bounty of natural resources. He said that this is the need of hour for promotion of economic activity in the region thereby transforming the lives of people.
