VIGILANCE BUREAU ARRESTS ASSISTANT TREASURY OFFICER FOR ACCEPTING BRIBE TO PASS PENSION CASE, SUSPENDED WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, on Thursday has apprehended Munish Kumar, Assistant Treasury Officer (ATO), Amritsar for accepting bribe to clear a pension case.

Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above mentioned accused has been arrested on the complaint lodged by Naresh Dogra, a resident of Bazar Narsingh, Amritsar.

He further informed that the complaint has approached the VB and alleged that the said accused has been demanding a bribe of Rs 20,000 for passing his pension case. He further added that after preliminary investigation of this complaint a trap was laid by a VB team and the accused was caught red handed accepting Rs 10,000 as a bribe.

(SUBHEAD)He added that in this regard a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered at VB police station Amritsar range. The accused would be produced in the competent court tomorrow and further investigation into this case was under progress, he said.

Meanwhile, the Punjab Finance Department has ordered immediate suspension of Munish Kumar, Assistant Treasurer at the District Treasury Office, Amritsar, effective from the date of his arrest on March 21, 2024.

Disclosing this, an official spokesperson said that Munish Kumar has been taken into custody by the Vigilance Department on charges of corruption and accepting bribes.

He said that during suspension period Munish’s headquarters has been fixed at the District Treasury Office, Jalandhar. He will receive a subsistence allowance in accordance with the rules of the Punjab Civil Services. 

Reiterating Department's commitment to maintaining the highest standards of integrity and ethics within its operations, he said that any action that compromise these values will be met with strict disciplinary measures.
