CBI COURT CONVICTS FOUR ACCUSED INCLUDING DISTRICT MANAGER, DY. MANAGER, ASSISTANT MANAGER OF FCI AND PROPRIETOR OF RICE MILL

The Special Judge, CBI Cases, Mohali on Wednesday convicted accused  Sita Ram the then Asst. Manager (QC), FCI, Guniana Centre, District Bhatinda,  Ashok Kumar Gupta, the then Deputy Manager (QC), FCI, Bhatinda,  Subhranshu, District Manager, FCI Bhatinda and Dalip Singh, Proprietor of M/s. Hemkunt Rice Mills in a CBI case related to acceptance of poor quality of rice by FCI officials. 

CBI had registered a case on 07.01.2006 on the basis of information regarding acceptance of poor quality rice by FCI officials in connivance with private rice millers. Joint Surprise Checks were earlier conducted at FCI Centre, Guniana, Mansa and Jalalabad from 29.09.2005 to 01.10.2005 by CBI in association with the Vigilance Branch of FCI.

Samples were collected during the said checks and sent to Central Grains Analysis Laboratory (CGAL), New Delhi for opinion / analysis. On receipt of report from CGAL, the instant case was registered. Investigation revealed that out of the samples collected, 26 samples did not meet the prescribed specifications. 

CBI filed chargesheet on 28.11.2008 in the Court of Special Judge, CBI, Mohali, Punjab against FCI officials and private persons /Rice millers. 

After trial, the Court held accused guilty and the quantum of sentence will be pronounced on 27.03.2024.
