The Nomination process for the Chandigarh Parliamentary Constituency, which commenced on May 7th, 2024, witnessed a subdued response on its fourth day, with three nominations filed.
The total number of nominations now stands at five, reflecting a tepid engagement from potential candidates.
The notice of election, originally issued by the Returning Officer, U.T., Chandigarh, on May 7th, 2024, remains in full effect, inviting further entries from interested parties.
In adherence to the Election Commission of India's directives, candidates are reminded of their obligations, including the publication of criminal antecedents by Candidates with pending criminal cases or convictions who are obligated to declare such information for wider publicity. This declaration, to be published in a specified format, must occur on three occasions during the campaign period, starting from the day after the last withdrawal date until 48 hours before the polls conclude. Written reminder is issued by the Returning Officer to applicable candidates.
Further, the candidates are reminded about mandatory display of printer and publisher information on all election materials under Section 127A of the R.P. Act, 1951. Additionally, candidates are urged to maintain meticulous records of campaign expenditures, as per Section 78 of the RP Act 1951, with submissions due within thirty days post-results declaration to the District Election Officer, U.T., Chandigarh.
To foster transparency and public awareness, the affidavits of all candidates have been made accessible on the ECI portal and various platforms like the Voter Helpline App, Know Your Candidate app (KYC), and affidavit.eci.gov.in.
