BMehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh, in association with the Microbiologists Society, India (MBSI)- Chandigarh Unit, conducted a 6-day online bridge course titled ‘Life-Threatening Microbial Pathogens and Vaccinology– Understanding Disease, Prevention and Therapy’.
This intensive bridge course was designed to provide in-depth knowledge and understanding of microbial pathogens and vaccinology, essential for excelling in the field of microbiology and related sciences.
It aimed to bridge the gap between high school graduates, undergraduates, and advanced research or professional courses, offering valuable insights and hands-on knowledge. Dr. Vandana Sharma of the college’s Food Science Department kicked off the course with an introductory lecture on pathogens, detailing their types and modes of transmission. Dr. Sandeep Kaur followed with an in-depth discussion on virulence factors and covered significant bacterial, fungal and viral infections and their pathogenic mechanisms and treatment methods used.
Dr. Deepika Malik shared her expertise on vaccines, covering their mechanisms, types and the latest trends in vaccinology. To ensure comprehensive understanding, Dr. Kirti Singla conducted a thorough assessment, evaluating the knowledge gained by the participants throughout the course. She also shed light on the role of diet in strengthening our immunity and preventing the onset of infections. During the course, special emphasis was laid on covering the syllabus and questions for postgraduate entrance tests. The participants found the course highly relevant and thanked the organisers for this initiative.
Principal Dr. Nisha Bhargava expressed gratitude to the resource persons for their efforts to equip participants with in-depth knowledge and skills to excel in their careers in the highly significant field of vaccinology. She expressed hope that the course not only enhanced the participants’ academic credentials but also significantly contributed to their future endeavours in the field of microbiology.
