FAZILKA DC REQUESTED TO SUSPEND PLANNED INCREASE OF COLLECTOR RATES

General Lambardar of Abohar, Stinu Jain, has requested suspension of the planned increase in collector rates for real estate in the subdivision.

In a letter to Deputy Commissioner Dr. Senu Duggal, he said that Collector Rates were revised upwards for the fiscal years 2021-22, 2022-23 and 2023-24 and there is no need to increase the collector rates at this critical time keeping in view of local economic conditions.

Abohar area is fundamentally agricultural based, and recent climatic challenges have substantially damaged our crops, leading to pronounced economic difficulties not just for farmers but also for local businesses and middle-class families. The repercussions of these challenges were vividly illustrated a few months ago when prolonged farmer protests severely disrupted local commerce conditions and highlighted the absence of expected governmental support for crop damages.

The prevailing economic conditions, marked by a recessionary market and reduced real estate activity, suggest that further increases in Collector Rates would exacerbate the financial strain on our community, which predominantly comprises lower and middle-income families.

He proposed that a committee be formed comprising officials, colonizers, property dealers, document writers, and active revenue estate Lambardars to thoroughly assess the on-ground realities prior to any decision on revising the collector rates.

He urged that the planned increase in Collector Rates for FY 2024-25 be put on hold, to prevent further economic strain on public in general.
