CHANDIGARH MODERN JAIL CELEBERATES INDEPENDENCE DAY

Independence Day was celebrated in Model Jail, Chandigarh on Thursday. Sh. Raj Kumar Singh, IPS, Inspector General of Prisons, UT, Chandigarh was the Chief Guest on this occasion and he hoisted the National Flag.

Dr. Palika Arora, Addl. IG Prisons, UT Chandigarh, Sh. Amandeep Singh, Addl. Superintendent Jail, Sh. Parmod Khatri, Deputy Superintendent Jail, Sh. Parveen Kumar, Deputy Superintendent Jail and Sh. Mukesh Goel, Deputy Superintendent Jail and other Jail Officers were also present. The Chief Guest informed regarding the importance of Independence and gave greetings to the staff.

On this occasion, the Chief Guest also rewarded the jail staff, CRPF staff and prisoners for their meritorious services with cash prize and certificates. Sh. Amandeep Singh, Addl. Supdt. Jail was conferred with President Medal for meritorious services in the Correctional field.

The inmates also presented patriotic songs on this occasion which was appreciated by the officers and other audience. The Chief Guest also informed the various reformative activities being undertaken for the inmates in Jail. STD facilities for the inmates were started 06 days in a week on this occasion and the duration of the call has also been increased from 5 minutes to 7 minutes. Earlier, STD facilities were provided to the inmates 03 times in a week.

Sweets were distributed amongst the staff members and prisoners after flag hoisting and Bada Khana (Special Dinner) was given in the evening to the prisoners.
