LUCKNOW COURT SENTENCES THEN REGIONAL DIRECTOR FOR HEALTH & FAMILY WELFARE, LUCKNOW TO 03 YEARS’ RI

The Ld. Spl. Judge for CBI cases , West Court, Lucknow has sentenced Dr. Jai Karan, then Regional Director for Health & Family Welfare, Lucknow to 03 years’ Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) with fine of Rs. 50,000/-. 

CBI had registered a case on 25.06.2004 against accused Dr. Jai Karan while posted & functioning as Regional Director for Health & Family Welfare, Lucknow. It was alleged that 03 Demand Drafts issued by Ministry of Health & Family Welfare for Non Scalpel Vasectomy Programme and Centre of Excellence Programme were deposited by accused dishonestly and fraudulently in unauthorisedly opened bank accounts at Allahabad Bank and State Bank of Patiyala during the period July 2002 to September 2003, in criminal conspiracy with some unknown persons. Dr. Jai Karan withdrew the said amounts in cash and misappropriated an amount of Rs.28,06,046/-, thereby causing undue pecuniary loss to the government exchequer.  

After investigation, Chargesheet was filed on 29.11.2005 against accused. The Court held accused guilty and sentenced him accordingly after trial.
