Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested accused Enforcement Officer of Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), Jalgaon for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 25,000/- from complainant.

A case was registered by CBI 08.10.2024 against accused Enforcement Officer of EPFO, on allegations that labour supply firm of complainant’s father which he was looking after, received an email from Regional Head, DO Jalgaon (EPFO) on 31.07.2024 informing that Audit Officer was going to conduct audit of their firm between 31.07.2024 to 02.08.2024. During audit, said Audit Officer allegedly informed the complainant that the firm had defaulted in the payment of PF for the month of March 2023 which came around Rs. 2 lakhs. It was further alleged that the said accused thereafter contacted the complainant telephonically and demanded undue advantage of Rs. 50,000/- for settlement of PF dues of the firm. After negotiation, accused agreed to accept a bribe of Rs. 25,000/- from the complainant.

CBI laid a trap and caught the accused red handed while demanding and accepting the undue advantage of Rs. 25,000/- from the complainant. Later, accused was arrested. Searches were conducted by CBI at residential and official premises of accused person at Jalgaon and Nashik which led to recovery of incriminating documents.

Investigation is continuing.
