The Haryana Government has decided to rename five colleges in the state in honour of martyrs and eminent citizens of society. In this regard, Chief Minister Sh. Nayab Singh Saini granted administrative approval today.
An official spokesperson informed that, as per the government's decision, in response to public demand, the name of Government Women’s College, Loharu, will be changed to Savitribai Phule, the first female teacher of India and a great social reformer. The government’s objective is that the ideals, values, and work of such a great personality as Savitribai Phule will continue to inspire the present and future generations and motivate them to contribute significantly to societal development.
Additionally, the name of Government Women’s College, Bawal, will be changed to Mrs. Savitri Devi Motilal (Tihara Wale), and the name of Government College, Kanina, will be changed to Pitamah Kanha Singh.
It is worth noting that the citizens of Kanina had themselves spent their own money to build the college on their land, and the college was named after the founder of the village, Pitamah Kanha Singh. After the government took over the college in 2014, Pitamah Kanha Singh’s name was removed. Now, respecting the sentiments of the people of Kanina and fulfilling their request, the name of the college will be restored to Pitamah Kanha Singh.
Similarly, taking cognizance of representations received during the Jan Samvaad programs, the Chief Minister has also approved the renaming of Women’s College, Jakhan Dadi, Ratia, to Martyr Davinder Singh. It is notable that Davinder Singh sacrificed his life in Jammu and Kashmir, killing four terrorists in an operation. In respect of public sentiments, the state government has decided to rename the college after Martyr Davinder Singh.
Furthermore, the name of Government College, Behrampur (Bapoli), will be changed to Martyr Naib Subedar Mahendra Kumar. Naib Subedar Mahendra Kumar, who served in the 6 Para Regiment (Para Commando), sacrificed his life for the country during an operation in Kashmir. This representation was also received during the Jan Samvad program.
