5TH ROUND OF FOOT AND MOUTH DISEASE (FMD) VACCINATION CONCLUDED IN UT CHANDIGARH

Under the National Animal Disease Control Program (NADCP) of Government of India, the FMD Program is successfully being taken up by the Department of Animal Husbandry & Fisheries, UT Chandigarh since its inception in 2020. The 5th round of FMD vaccination was launched in all villages of UT Chandigarh w.e.f. 1st November, 2024 and concluded on 30st November 2024.

On the occasion, Sh. Hari Kallikat, Secretary Animal Husbandry & Fisheries, UT Chandigarh stated that the FMD is amongst most serious diseases of animals in term of economic impact and is globally recognized as priority disease for control and eradication. The Department of Animal Husbandry & Fisheries, UT Chandigarh vaccinated all large and small animals free of cost against the FMD at the door step of livestock farmers as per Govt. of India guidelines.

Sh. Paviter Singh, Director Animal Husbandry & Fisheries, UT Chandigarh informed that till date five rounds of FMD vaccination has been completed and 95,768 vaccines has been administrated against the disease.  Dr. Kanwarjit Singh, Joint Director Animal Husbandry revealed that FMD is amongst most serious diseases of animals in term economic impact.
