39 CANDIDATES TO CONTEST FOR MAYOR POST, 184 FOR PRESIDENT IN LOCAL BODY ELECTIONS

Haryana State Election Commissioner Sh. Dhanpat Singh said in the Urban Local Body elections (except Panipat Municipal Corporation), after withdrawal of nominations, 39 candidates will contest for the post of Mayor in the respective Municipal Corporations, 184 for the post of President in Municipal Councils and Municipalities and 2335 candidates will contest for the post of ward members.

Election symbols have been allotted to all the candidates. The State Election Commissioner said for the post of Mayor, 6 candidates are in the fray in Municipal Corporation Faridabad, 2 in Gurugram, 4 in Manesar, 7 in Hisar, 4 in Karnal, 5 in Rohtak and 4 in Yamunanagar.

He informed that 2 candidates are in the fray for the by-election for the post of Mayor of Municipal Corporation Ambala and 5 candidates are in the fray for the by-election for the post of Mayor of Sonipat Municipal Corporation.

He further informed that for the post of Municipal Council President, 4 candidates will contest in Ambala Sadar, 11 in Pataudi Jatoli Mandi, 5 in Thanesar and 8 in Sirsa. Similarly, for the post of Nagar Palika President, 7 candidates will contest in Barara, 11 in Bawani Khera, 17 in Loharu, 8 in Siwani, 3 in Jakhal Mandi, 11 in Farrukh Nagar, 10 in Narnaund, 5 in Beri, 9 in Julana, 7 in Kalayat, 8 in Siwan, 3 in Pundri, 3 in Indri, 3 in Nilokheri, 5 in Ateli Mandi, 7 in Kanina, 10 in Tawadu, 9 in Hathin, 4 in Kalanor, 4 in Kharkhoda and 5 in Radaur. Similarly, under by-elections, 5 candidates will contest for the post of President of Nagar Parishad Sohna, 3 in Nagar Palika Assandh and 5 in Ismailabad.

Along with this, 2335 candidates will contest for the post of ward members in all the concerned Municipal Corporations, Municipal Councils and Municipalities. Voting for all these posts will be held on March 2 from 8 am to 6 pm.

He said nomination papers for Municipal Corporation Panipat will be filled from February 21 to February 27 (on all working days except gazetted holidays). After this, the nomination papers will be scrutinized on February 28. After that, the candidates who want to withdraw their nomination can withdraw their names on March 1 from 11 am to 3 pm. After 3 pm on the same day, election symbols will be allotted to the candidates. On March 1 itself, the list of candidates contesting the election and polling stations will be pasted in public places.

After this, voting will be held on March 9 from 8 am to 6 pm. After the completion of the entire election process, counting of votes will be done on March 12 from 8 am and the election results will be declared on the same day.
