Government College in Sukhchain village near Abohar today enthusiastically celebrated the International Mother Language Day.
(MOREPIC1) The event was graced with the presence of celebrity poetess Meena Mehrok. She was honoured on the occasion by presenting a trophy. College students enjoyed the programme immensely.
Dr. Ramesh Rangila recited a poem, a collection of his poems in book form was presented to Mehrok.
Dr. Harjit Singh Gill and Prof. Naveen Kumar were among those who addressed the students. The teachers said that the International Mother Language Day is celebrated every year on February 21 to encourage the preservation and protection of all languages. The observance was mandated by UNESCO in 1999, and it marks the death of language martyrs in Bangladesh (then East Pakistan) during the year 1952.
It serves to remind everyone that languages need to be preserved as part and parcel of one's culture and identity. Prof. Ishwar Singh, Ajay Kumar, Madam Twinkle. Madam Renu Bala, Rahul Kumar, Sandeep Kumar along with the entire college staff were present.
