Acting on the orders of Shri Nishant Kumar Yadav, IAS, District Magistrate, U.T. Chandigarh, the Chandigarh Administration today carried out a demolition drive against unauthorised constructions on agricultural land at the Fish, Chicken and Meat Market in the peripheral area of Village Shastri Nagar, Mani Majra.

The operation commenced at 7:00 AM, with officials assembling at Police Station, IT Park. Officers from various departments were assigned specific responsibilities to ensure the smooth conduct of the drive:

• Law and order: A large police contingent, including women constables, was deployed under the supervision of a DSP-level officer who remained present throughout the operation. The SDM (East) oversaw law and order and coordinated with the police.

• Demolition: The Tehsildar and Naib Tehsildar (Periphery), along with enforcement staff, carried out the demolition. The Tehsildar (Enforcement), Estate Office, provided support through inspection staff, labourers and trucks.

• Site supervision: The Tehsildar (Revenue) remained on site with field staff.

• Logistics: The Superintendent (Store), Estate Office, arranged two JCB machines, drinking water and refreshments for the deployed personnel.

• Support: Civil Defence personnel also assisted in the operation.

As a precautionary measure, electricity and water connections in the area were disconnected in advance by the Electricity Circle and the concerned SDO (Electricity & Water).

During the drive, 80 unauthorised structures were demolished, freeing approximately 6 acres of agricultural land from encroachment. The operation concluded peacefully.

The Administration reiterated that strict action against unauthorised constructions and encroachments will continue across the city and its peripheral areas.
