Dr. Atul Fulzele, Inspector General, BSF Punjab Frontier, during a visit, honored some farmers for bringing awareness against drug peddling in the border belt.

The IG said that the farmers of the border area are the backbone of the country.

The members of Punjab Border Area Kisan Union, led by state president Raghubir Singh Bhangal, discussed timely opening of fence gates, and increasing the number of BSF personnel in BSF outposts.

(SUBHEAD)They sought permission to lay new water pipes for agriculture under the new wire being laid along the old fence and to lay new pipes in place of the pipes that were broken earlier. They demanded erecting gates on government roads, to reduce the distance between the gates. They also suggested forming a committee to carry out a survey for the crops damaged due to flood lights placed along the wires and to prepare a report and send it to the central government.

Farmers sought permission to cultivate cotton across the fence in village Roop Nagar and to allow large pipes for canal water.

The IG assured the union leaders that their problems would be resolved soon. Regarding the pipes under the barbed wire, he instructed the concerned Commandants that wherever the work of the new fence is going on, farmers should be allowed to lay pipes there.

Abohar Sector DIG BSF Vijay Kumar and commandants of BSF Battalion were present.
