In a shocking incident, around a dozen armed youths allegedly attacked the Aam Aadmi Party’s Block President near the village of Fattewala in Mamdot block, late last night and left him severely injured. The injured AAP leader identified as Balvir Singh resident of Fattewala village, was rushed to Mamdot Civil Hospital with the help of locals. Balvir however, alleged that his assault was rooted in resentment over his efforts to curb drug trafficking in Mamdot area.

While divulging details, Balvir said that yesterday night he had come to Mamdot for some work and when he was going back, he lost his mobile. “I circulated a message in local groups regarding my lost mobile. Later I received a call that my mobile has been found and I can collect from a place near Mamdot. When I reached there, these people called me to a shop and attacked on me with sharp edged weapons and sticks”, said Balvir .

(SUBHEAD)“All of these accused are involved in drugs smuggling and they believed that I had sent inputs to police against them. I told them I have done anything neither I am aware about it but they did not believe me”, said Balvir.

When contacted DSP (Rural) Karan Sharma said that the police has started the investigation and soon the accused will be nabbed. “Strict action shall be taken against those who found involved in illegal trade of drugs”, said DSP.

It is pertinent to mention here that recently the state government had recently launched its “War Against Drugs” campaign to curb the drug menace from the state.
