Face2News/Chandigarh

Leaders from various political parties have united against the alleged corrupt practices of constituency MLA Narinder Kaur Bharaj regarding the presidency of Bhawanigarh Truck Union.

Addressing the media today, BJP state vice president and former MLA Arvind Khanna, Congress leader Surinder Pal Singh Sibian, and leaders from other parties, including Akali Dal’s Hardeep Singh Toor, criticized the Punjab government’s decision to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT) for the Truck Union Bhawanigarh case. They dismissed the SIT as a mere eyewash, citing the lack of independent monitoring.

The opposition leaders further alleged that MLA Bharaj cannot be trusted to serve the people, recalling how she reportedly urged party workers to defeat her own party’s candidate, Gurmail Singh Gharachon, during the 2022 elections.

Arvind Khanna condemned MLA Bharaj’s remarks labeling truck operator Manjit Singh Kaka’s suicide attempt as a “drama.” He called it an inhumane statement, emphasizing that medical reports from Aram Hospital, Patiala, confirm the seriousness of Kaka’s condition.

(SUBHEAD)Notably, Manjit Kaka had released a video accusing MLA Bharaj and her husband of demanding ₹30 lakh for the truck union presidency. The video also showed cash allegedly involved in the deal. Frustrated by unfulfilled promises, Kaka attempted suicide by consuming poison.

Khanna demanded that the case be investigated by a sitting judge, arguing that the Punjab government’s inquiry cannot be trusted. He cited previous cases of corruption involving ruling party MLAs, including the high-profile case of Mansa MLA Vijay Singla.

He also pointed out that Gurpreet Singh, who appeared in the alleged money exchange video with Bharaj, has gone into hiding. Constituents widely recognize Gurpreet Singh as a key leader of the Aam Aadmi Party and a close aide of MLA Bharaj.
