DRONE ACTIVITY RAISES ALARM, OVER 7 KG HEROIN SEIZED IN FERROZEPUR

Vikramk Ditya Sharma/Ferozepur,

In a significant recovery amid rising drone activity along the border, Punjab Police recovered a drone along with 6.930 kg of heroin from agricultural fields near Kohala village in this district. Acting on specific inputs, the police launched a search operation which led to the seizure of a grey-coloured hexacopter drone (CE ROHS) along with multiple packets of heroin. An FIR has been registered against unidentified persons under Section 21 of the NDPS Act and Sections 25, 26, and 27 of the Indian Aircraft Act at Mallanwala police station.

In another case, a joint search operation by the BSF and Punjab Police resulted in the recovery of one drone along with 894 grams of heroin near Jalal Wala village, located close to the international border. According to sources, the operation was initiated following reports of suspected drone movement in the area. A case under Section 21 of the NDPS Act and Sections 26, 27, 28, and 30 of the Indian Aircraft Act has been registered at Sadar police station.

The recoveries come close on the heels of similar incidents reported in the region. Just two days ago, a drone along with 1.604 kg of heroin was recovered during a joint operation near Pachharian village, while another drone was seized near Bhakhra village. The repeated interceptions point towards a persistent pattern of cross-border smuggling attempts using drones, keeping security agencies on heightened alert in the border belt.
