Young literary talent from this border district received appreciation at the Second One-Day International Child Writers’ Conference held at Phagwara, where school students from different regions showcased their creativity through poetry and literary expressions.

The conference, organised under the banner of “Nawian Kalam Nawin Udaan”, witnessed participation from budding child writers from various schools. Representing Ferozepur district under the guidance of District Education Officer (Secondary) Munila Arora, District Education Officer (Elementary) Sunita Rani, Deputy DEO (Secondary) Dr. Satinder Singh and Deputy DEO (Elementary) Komal Arora, two girl students from the district impressed the audience with their self-written poems.
Jasmine Kaur, a Class VIII student of Government Senior Secondary School, Rukna Begu, presented her poem titled “Parmatma Di Kudrat”, while Prabhjeet Kaur, a Class VI student of Government Middle School, Patel Nagar, recited her poem “Maa Te Kudrat”. Their performances received appreciation from the dignitaries and literary personalities present during the conference.

Dr. Amar Jyoti Mangat ‘Jyot’, District President of the Ferozepur team under the “Nawian Kalam Nawin Udaan” project, said the conference was organised on May 3 at Kyberz International School, Phagwara, with the objective of encouraging literary creativity among children.

She said that the event was attended by several eminent personalities including project founder Sukhi Bath from Punjab Bhawan Surrey, Canada, Punjab School Education Board Chairman Amarpal Singh, Dr. Parvinder Singh, President of World Buddhist Federation Vishav Shanti Sanstha and UN Ambassador, besides former Guru Nanak Dev University Vice Chancellor Dr. S.P. Singh. Prominent literary figures including Prof. Gurbhajan Singh Gill, Jaswant Singh Khaira, Baljinder Maan, Kamaljit Neelu and others also encouraged the young writers.

School head Sudesh Rani and Dr. Amar Jyoti Mangat appreciated the efforts being made by Sukhi Bath to promote child literature. They said ten students from different schools of Ferozepur district participated in the conference, while two students got the opportunity to present their original literary works on stage.

Dr. Amarpal Singh praised the initiative and said it was perhaps for the first time that such large-scale efforts were being made to encourage child literature. He stressed that such conferences should continue in future to develop literary interest among students from an early age.

Notably, under the “Nawian Kalam Nawin Udaan” project, books authored by 71 child writers have already been published. During the conference, 19 more books were unveiled, including works by writers from Pakistan, England and France. Officials said that so far, 99 poems and articles written by 62 students from Ferozepur district have already been compiled into a book, while work on the second publication is underway.
