INTACH FEROZEPUR HOLDS HERITAGE AND CIVIC AWARENESS WORKSHOP

With an aim to inspire young minds towards heritage conservation, environmental protection and responsible citizenship, the INTACH Ferozepur Chapter organised a Heritage and Civic Awareness Workshop at D.C. Model International School on Saturday.

The workshop was conducted as part of ongoing efforts to promote awareness about the rich cultural legacy of the border district and encourage students to play an active role in preserving it.

Addressing the participants, noted educationist Dr Rameshwar Singh described India’s cultural heritage as one of its greatest assets and stressed that preserving it is a collective responsibility. He highlighted the challenges involved in safeguarding historical and cultural sites at the district level and urged students to contribute towards their protection.

Dr Diljit Singh Sandhu, Managing Director of Baba Ishar Singh Group of Institutions, Moga, spoke on environmental conservation and expressed concern over declining soil fertility. He emphasized the need to conserve natural resources, promote plantation drives and maintain ecological balance. He said that if every individual adopts tree plantation as a personal mission, a healthier environment can be ensured for future generations.

INTACH Ferozepur Co-Convener Vikramditya Sharma said that under the leadership of Chapter Convener Dr Anirudh Gupta, several meaningful initiatives are being undertaken in the border district to promote heritage conservation and civic awareness. He said these activities are helping young people understand and appreciate their cultural roots while encouraging them to contribute towards their preservation.

He also thanked INTACH Punjab Convener Major General Balwinder Singh (Retd.), VSM, for his support in making the workshop a success.

Concluding the programme, INTACH member Parminder Singh Thind highlighted Ferozepur’s immense tourism potential and said the district could emerge as a major tourism destination if its heritage assets are properly promoted and preserved. He added that INTACH continues to raise issues related to heritage conservation before the government from time to time.
