In a strong stance against crimes targeting women and children, the judiciary in Panchkula, has once again delivered a stern message. The Fast Track Special Court in Panchkula, presided over by Additional Sessions Judge Manish Dua, pronounced a landmark judgment in a 2021 POCSO case, sentencing the accused to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment.
The court also imposed a fine of ₹50,000, with additional imprisonment in case of non-payment.
The accused was convicted under Section 4(2) of the POCSO Act and Section 506 of the Indian Penal Code. This verdict reinforces that there is zero tolerance in law for crimes against minors.
The case came to light on December 13, 2021, when the victim’s mother approached the Panchkula Women Police Station seeking justice. According to the complaint, on December 12, a known person lured her 14-year-old daughter to an isolated location in Panchkula under the pretext of introducing her to a relative, and sexually assaulted her.
Acting promptly, the Women Police Station registered the case and initiated an investigation. Under the leadership of Woman PSI Priya, the police acted swiftly and arrested the accused, originally from Uttar Pradesh, on April 14, ensuring he was put behind bars.
DCP Panchkula Srishti Gupta stated that ensuring the safety of daughters is not just a duty but an unwavering commitment. She emphasized that there can be no compromise on this front, and that offenders deserve no place in society other than jail. She added that during the investigation, every scientific and technical aspect was thoroughly examined to ensure that justice was delivered without any lapses. This verdict reflects both the diligent efforts of the police and the sensitivity of the judiciary. Panchkula Police remains fully committed to ensuring a safe environment for women and children.
Panchkula Police Commissioner (ADGP) Shivash Kabiraj also reaffirmed the department’s commitment to law and order, stating that fear should exist in the minds of criminals, not among the public. He noted that the punishment under the POCSO Act serves as a strict warning to those who intend to exploit minors.
