PLANTATION DRIVE HELD AT EK ONKAR SMART SCHOOL, 50 SAPLINGS PLANTED

The Women and Child Welfare Society, Sector 45, Chandigarh, organised a plantation drive at Ek Onkar Smart School, Janta Nagar, Kharar in Mohali, in which 50 saplings were planted with the participation of students.

The saplings included fruit-bearing plants such as jamun, amla, guava and mango, besides various flowering, medicinal and shade-giving plants.

Speaking on the occasion Ms. Pooja Bakshi, Founder and President of the Women and Child Welfare Society, said that plantation was the need of the hour for environmental protection. In view of rising pollution and environmental changes, every individual should understand their responsibility towards protecting the environment.

Ms. Pooja Bakshi said, the society regularly organises plantation drives and other awareness programmes. The objective is not merely to plant saplings but also to sensitise people, particularly children and youth, about environmental conservation. She emphasised that regular care and protection of the saplings after plantation is equally important.

She appealed to the students to plant more trees in and around their surroundings and take responsibility for their upkeep. She said that the saplings planted today would provide clean air and a healthier environment for future generations.

School Principal Onkar Kaur thanked Pooja Bakshi and the entire team of the society for organising the plantation drive and delivering a positive message to the students and the community.

Those present on the occasion included School Principal Onkar Kaur, Director Satnam Singh Matharu, society adviser Om Parkash Mehra, executive member Rakesh Kumar Gupta, volunteers Bharti, Anjali, Sakshi and Mamnit Kaur, besides students and staff members of the school.
