The Railway Protection Force (RPF) post at Sriganganagar discovered a 14-year-old boy Puneet, who was found in a distressed and unattended state aboard train number 12456 (Bikaner–Delhi Sarai Rohilla Express) last Monday. The Child Helpline took the boy into protective custody and presented him before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC). During counselling, the boy explained that he is a resident of Rona village, under the jurisdiction of the Kharkhoda police station (Sonipat). He had gone to Delhi with friends to celebrate a classmate’s birthday, without informing his family.
Upon returning home, his mother scolded him. Upset by this, he ran away from home on October 10, boarded a train to Delhi and subsequently travelled around by train. While he was on a train, a Ticket Examiner (TTE) asked for his ticket; as he did not have one, the TTE handed him over to the Railway Police in Suratgarh.
The Railway Police transferred the boy to the RPF post in Sriganganagar where he was presented before the Child Welfare Committee and placed in a shelter home. The Child Helpline and the Railway Police managed to locate his family and informed them that their son was safe in Sriganganagar.
Today, the boy’s family members, accompanied by a Child Welfare Officer from the Kharkhoda police station, arrived in Sriganganagar, and the boy was handed over to them.
Present on the occasion were Joginder Kaushik (Chairperson, Child Welfare Committee), RPF Inspector Raj Kumar, Sub-Inspector Dungar Singh, and Trilok Verma (Child Helpline Coordinator, Department of Child Empowerment).
