RABINDRANATH TAGORE’S ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATED IN RUSSIA

Recalling the Russian-Indian ties, a programme was conducted by BK Olga Smirnova, Artistic Director of Lira for the first time in Yekaterinburg, Russia. Alexander Herzen Central City Library hosted a creative evening entitled “Connecting Times and Countries”. BK Lira Music and Poetry Salon was invited to join the occasion and BK Olga Smirnova could cover the selected rare theme as mentioned above.

The guest of honor was the Consul General of India in Yekaterinburg, Debabrata Chattopadhyay. He emphasized the importance of cultural exchange between the countries. The consul noted that such evenings serve as a reminder of the depth and strength of Russian-Indian ties.

The program was timed to coincide with the anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore — an outstanding Indian poet, writer, philosopher, composer, artist, and public figure—as well as the centuries-old history of relations between Russia and India — from ancient trade routes to modern strategic partnerships in energy, space, and high technology.

In 1930, Rabindranath Tagore visited the Soviet Union. The event became a symbol of the cultural kinship between Russia and India. The music of his poetry and the depth of his aphorisms intertwined with the rhythm of Indian dances. Anyone who experienced this beauty will long cherish it in their souls. The program’s host, Olga Smirnova, Artistic Director of Lira, created a warm and intimate atmosphere. The audience became not just listeners but participants in this journey through time and space.
