RAJASTHAN SIKH DHARAM PRACHAR COMMITTEE CHIEF TIMMA ARRESTED

Raj Sadosh/Abohar.

Tejinderpal Singh Timma—the State President of the Rajasthan Sikh Dharma Prachar Committee and Secretary of the management committee for the Dhan-Dhan Baba Shaheed Deep Singh Gurudwara (located on Padampur Road, Sriganganagar)—has been arrested.

He was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s court this afternoon under extremely tight security. The court granted a two-day remand.

Police said that the arrest was made in connection with a case registered on August 30 following a complaint by the operator of an immigration agency located in H-Block. The complaint alleged that Timma, along with others, visited the office, engaged in intimidation and assault, broke a tooth, and forcibly snatched one lakh rupees. The charges invoked include the relevant section of the BNS corresponding to Section 326 of the erstwhile Indian Penal Code (IPC). This is the first arrest in the case.

Since this morning, there has been a flurry of activity among office-bearers of various Sikh organizations at the Baba Deep Singh Gurudwara. Sikh religious leaders strongly condemned the arrest, terming it a deep-rooted police conspiracy. Police strongly refuted the allegation of any wrongdoing in the Gurudwara.

Meanwhile, the police have registered a separate case against 15–20 individuals, including Tejinderpal Singh Timma and Bibi Harmeet Kaur Khalsa (former president of the management committee of Gurudwara Mehtabgarh, Goluwala). They are accused of obstructing official duty, scuffling with police personnel, and attempting to free Timma from custody. The case was registered late last night at the Purani Abadi police station based on a report filed by Constable Mukesh, who was part of the arresting team.
