UT ADMIN ENFORCED MODEL CODE OF CONDUCT, ELECTION SCHEDULED ANNOUNCED

General Elections to Lok Sabha have been announced by the Election Commission of India i.e. on 16.3.2024 and with the announcement of the Election Programme, the Model Code of Conduct has come into force. As per the programme of elections announced by the Election Commission of India, Polling of Chandigarh Parliamentary Constituency will be held on 1st June 2024 (Saturday) and counting will be held on 4th June (Tuesday)

During the run up to elections, various meetings with political parties have been held at the level of CEO, RO and AEROs and they have been regularly briefed about the developments from time to time. Today also a meeting was held with the representatives of political parties under the Chairmanship of Chief Electoral Officer immediately after the announcement of elections by Election Commission of India. The representatives of political parties were requested to strictly adhere to the guidelines of the commission regarding Model Code of Conduct.

As per the Electoral Roll as on date, total electors of Chandigarh Parliamentary Constituency are 6,47,291 including 3,35,060 Males, 3,12,198 Females and 33 Third gender. 614 Polling Stations have been setup in this Constituency which have been spread across 209 polling station locations. All these polling stations have Assured Minimum Facilities as per the guidelines of Commission such as Drinking Water, Electricity, Furniture, Shade etc. 139 polling stations have been declared vulnerable. As per the directions of Election Commission of India, webcasting will be done in all the polling stations in the current elections.

This Constituency has set up District Call centre with 1950 toll free number in which any resident can make a call and get the updated information regarding their votes and on election. Toll free number 1950 will be operational 24x7 for the facility of electors and citizens. The residents can also register their complaint on 1950 at any time and it will be functional 24x7 . '

Also, a control room of the Returning Officer has been set up at 1st floor , Conference room, DC Office, Sector 17 . This control room shall function as the Nodal point for resolution of all complaints and shall coordinate between various teams involved. Seniors Officers have been designated as Nodal Officers for Manpower Management, Training Management, Material Management, Transport Management, Computerization, Cyber Security and IT, SVEEP, Law and Order, Vulnerability Mapping and Security, EVM Management, Model Code of Conduct, Expenditure Monitoring , Complaints Redressal, Excise Department etc to ensure free, fair and smooth elections. To strictly enforce the Model Code of Conduct, 6 Flying Squad Teams, 6 Static Surveillance Teams, 4 Video Surveillance Teams and 4 Video Viewing Teams have been set up.

Various IT Tools will also be used such as Voter Helpline Application, Know Your Candidate Application, C Vigil, Suwidha etc for the convenience of voters, political parties and candidates. Expenditure monitoring teams have also been put in place to monitor the expenditure of political parties and contesting candidates.

Election Office, Chandigarh is committed to provide level playing field to the political parties and candidates and to ensure conduct of elections in free, fair and transparent manner.
