UT ADMIN BANNED CARRYING OF ARMS AND AMMUNITION, DIRECTS TO DEPOSIT CONCERNED POLICE STATIONS

Whereas, it has been made to appear to Deputy Commissioner that there is possibility of law and order Violation, security threats and misuse of arms weapons by anti social elements and others, which can create public nuisance and as such there is very high apprehension of breach of peace and disturbance of public tranquility besides danger to human lives and safety by the display of weapons during the General Lok Sabha Elections, 2024.

And whereas, in view of the instructions/quidelines issued by the Election Commission of India, New Delhivide No.464/INST/EPS/2023/L&O dated 08.06.2023, he is of the opinion that Carrying or possessing of all kind of fire arms and ammunition within the Union Territory Chandigarh may cause obstruction, annoyance to persons lawfully employed or may disturb public peace and tranquility and may also cause riots and affray and that immediate action is necessary for the prevention of the same.

Now therefore, in exercise of the powers vested with him under section 144 Cr.P.C. , Vinay Pratap Singh, I.A.S.,District Magistrate, Chandigarh does, hereby, prohibit as measure of emergency, the license holders from carrying of all kinds of fire arms and ammunitions within the limits of U.T., Chandigarh and also direct to all the arms license holders within the U.T., Chandigarh to deposit their arms and ammunitions to the nearest Police Stations, immediately.

Provided that the above order shall not apply to: para-military personnel and other Govt. servants if called upon to

*Police or military or conditions: carry fire arms in connection with their duties subject to the following That the police/military/para-military personnel shall be in their service uniform. That the exemption is applicable in relation to the above said personnel only when they are on official duty.

*Fire arms and ammunitions exempted by the Election Commission of India or all the license holders exempted by the Screening Committee constituted as per instructions No.464/INST/2023/L&O dated 08.06.2023 of the Election Commission of India. Any person not wanting to deposit a weapon would be free to represent to the Screening Committee. This order shall come into force from zero hours on 16.03.2024 and shall be effective for a period of 60 days up-to and including 14.05.2024.
