EXCISE DEPTT. DIRECTED TO FOLLOW INSTRUCTION TO ENFORCE ELECTION COMMISSION GUIDLINES IN WAKE OF LOK SABHA ELECTIONS

A meeting was conducted by the Excise & Taxation Department, UT, Chandigarh under the chairmanship of Sh Vinay Pratap Singh, Excise-Taxation Commissioner and in presence of Sh. Harsuhinder Pal Singh Brar, Collector (Excise) cum Additional Excise and Taxation Commissioner, U.T. Chandigarh regarding instructions for compliance of Excise Policy 2024-25 and enforcement of ECI's guidelines on Model Code of Conduct by Bottling Plant licensees and Wholesale Licensees of liquor in the wake of Lok Sabha Elections-2024.
 
The Department sensitised the stakeholders regarding implementation of the Excise Policy from 1st April 2024 in letter and spirit. The Department assured cooperation for smooth running of business. In addition, stakeholders were given clear directions to adhere to the Excise Policy 2024-25, Excise Act, 1914 & the rules framed thereunder and MCC guidelines issued by ECI or face consequences of strict action under the policy as well as penal action under the IPC in case of any violation. Emphasis was placed on curbing the menace of interstate smuggling.
 
The Excise Department emphasised to the bottlers and wholesalers that Dept is committed to weed out interstate smuggling and will continue taking stringent action against any individual or establishment found involved in any deviation from Excise Policy 2024-25, Excise Act, 1914 & the rules framed thereunder and MCC guidelines of ECI.
