MP ARORA CONDOLED DEMISE OF INDUSTRIALIST AND PHILANTHROPIST GIAN CHAND DHAWAN

Sanjeev Arora, MP (Rajya Sabha) and Vice President, DMCH Managing Society has condoled the sudden demise of leading industrialist Gian Chand Dhawan on Sunday.

In a statement here on Monday, Arora said Dhawan was not only an industrialist but a renowned philanthropist also. He added the services rendered to the society and DMCH, Ludhiana by Dhawan would never be forgotten.

Further, he said Dhawan had also been vice president of DMCH Managing Society in the past. Presently, Dhawan was a Member of the Society.

Arora further said Dhawan was Founder and Chairman, York Group. He added Dhawan had also served in several important organisations such as Wool & Woolen Export Promotion Council (a Govt. of India Undertaking) and Ex-Chairman- Hosiery Exporters Association, Secretary- Hosiery Export Organization. Besides, Dhawan had also been associated to the Development Council of Woolen Industry.

He recalled that Dhawan had initiated the garments trade in 1950 following which the York Group- a leading manufacturer of knitwear and readymade garments, came into existence. Dhawan established his first firm, York Hosiery Mills, in the year 1954 for the purpose of exporting hosiery goods. The firm operated successful until 1983. After that, a new company under the name of York Exports Ltd. was incorporated.

Arora has expressed his deep sympathies with the aggrieved family members Mohini Dhawan (wife), Ashwani Dhawan (son), Anita Soni and Namita Chopra (daughters) and Jyoti Dhawan (Daughter-in-Law).
