This year, the auspicious festival of Raksha Bandhan will extend beyond the confines of the family home to reach the nation’s borders. An event titled ‘Rakhi Sarhad Ke Naam’ is scheduled for August 23 at the Asafwala War Memorial in Fazilka, located near the India-Pakistan border. The event’s poster was launched on Tuesday in Chandigarh by Governor Gulab Chand Kataria. Karan Gilhotra and Navdeep Asija served as the hosts for this event.
In this unique initiative, 1,100 women from Fazilka, accompanied by their families, will tie Rakhis on the wrists of 1,100 Indian Army and BSF soldiers. Through this gesture, the women will express respect, trust, and gratitude towards the soldiers who guard the nation’s borders, stated Karan Gilhotra.
The significance of this event at the Asafwala War Memorial is heightened by the fact that the memorial commemorates the martyrdom of 232 Indian soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice while defending the Fazilka sector during the 1971 India-Pakistan war. Tying Rakhis to soldiers at such a sacred site will also serve as a tribute to the soldiers who were martyred in the defense of the country, noted Navdeep Asija.
According to organizers Karan Gilhotra, Navdeep Asija, and Raman Khurana, the event will be attended by serving Army and BSF personnel, ex-servicemen, families of martyrs, their relatives and NGOs. Governor Gulab Chand Kataria will preside over the event, which will also be attended by senior officials from the Indian Army and the BSF.
