The police has booked Surinder Bansal, posted as the DSP (City) in this border district on graft charges under section 7, and 7A of Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 as amended in 2018 at Cantonment Police station (FIR No. 132 Dated 06.12.2023). It is pertinent to mention here that the cantonment police station falls under Bansal’s own jurisdiction.
As per information, the police had received inputs that one Gurmej Singh, resident of Kothi Rai Sahib village situated on Ferozepur-Fazilka road, was allegedly working as a “tout” for the erring DSP and had been reportedly involved in accepting gratifications on his behalf.
As per information, Gurmej had earlier been booked under sections 420, 465, 467, 468 and 741 IPC (FIR No. 60 Dated 10.05.2023) but he was declared “innocent” by the DSP during the investigation by misusing his powers. Sources said that the accused Gurmej had received money through online transaction on behalf of the DSP Bansal in several cases.
